About the Founder
“Life does not care about your circumstances. Life demands that you ADAPT and ADJUST.”
— Fred Bailey, Founder of Children Are People, Inc.
As one of fifteen children of sharecroppers from Gallatin, Tennessee, Fred was born without the gift of full sight. Despite an intimate relationship with disadvantage, he received a Bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University, worked at General Electric and served as a middle school and high school wrestling coach.
What is his secret recipe for success?
It begins and ends with the presence of caring adults in a child’s life, adults who encourage ambition, model a positive work ethic and focus on personal responsibility. Knowing the influence adult mentors had in his life, Fred founded Children Are People, Inc. in order to provide these same advantages to youth in Sumner County, where he currently resides.
Mr. Bailey receives the Order of the Horse Award – granted as the highest award for community service in Sumner County for those who have dedicated themselves to improving the quality of life for their fellow citizens.
Mr. Bailey attends a Nashville Predators hockey game where he was honored as the recipient of the Walmart Community Playmaker during the October 28, 2017 game. This award recognizes those who are making a difference in the community.
